Blog Entry #10- Interview 2 Reflection

1. Please explain how you are spending your mentorship time (Is it at a workplace or somewhere else? Are you shadowing? Are you able to do tasks that are meaningfully related to the topic? If so, what? Are there other people who are experts in the location? Etc...)
  • For my senior project I spend most of my time at the Chino Optometry Center. Patient confidentiality limits the things I can see for each appointment, it is ultimately up to them whether I can shadow the doctor during the appointment. My mentor conducts her usual routine while I shadow her and write as many notes as possible. At the moment I can only shadow the doctor, but in the future I will be able to interact with patients and conduct activities given to me by my mentor.
2. How did you find your mentor? How did you convince this person to help you?
  • I have family that works at  the Chino Optometry Center and I've known the employees and doctors there for most of my life. My mentor knows me fairly well and she was confident that I would take this opportunity and use it wisely.
3. How would you rate your comfort level with your mentor at this point in your relationship? How does this relate to the time you've spent so far at mentorship/with this person
  • On a scale from 1-10, I would rate the relationship with my mentor a strong 6. A 6 isn't the best, but I am confident that with time our educational relationship will grow stronger.
4. What went well in this interview? Why do you think so? What do you still need to improve? How do you know? How will you go about it?
  • My interview was very smooth and straight forward, but I feel that I need to come up with stronger questions in order to get more in depth answers. I know this because most of my mentor's answers were short and lacked detail. I plan on fixing this by being more specific by

providing details in order for my mentor to understand my questions.
