Blog Entry #5- Interview one reflection

1. What is the most important thing I learned from the interview? Is there anything I would do differently for other interviews?
  • The one interesting thing I learned from the interview was my mentors desire to become an optometrist. Most people will become an optometrist for financial reasons or maybe even to get glasses, but my mentor has different ideals. She became an optometrist because her mother was blind and Dr.Hinh (my mentor) wanted to in some way cure her. She loves helping people on a daily basis which is why optometry was an excellent career choice for her. The one thing I would want to do differently is ask more questions. It was very intriging to hear what she had to say.
2. Did I get additional resources and contacts? What is the most useful? Why?
  • My mentor did give me other doctors I could tok to, but she gave me a book called "Infinite Vision" that describes the life of an optometrist from India. This man, Aravind, wanted to help as many people as he possibly could for free. This book widens my point of view for optometry. The field of optometry is much more then a business, its about helping the helpless. "Infinite Vision" is most helpful in terms of informations because of the fact that it widens your views of optometry.
3. What makes my interviewee qualified to help me?
  • My interviewee is more then qualified to help me because of her 10 plus years in practice as an optometrist. She has a vast amount of expertise in the filed, seeing more than 20 patients at Chino Optometry Center on a daily basis. She knows the inns and outs of the optometry, her years of experience has given her the ability to have stress free days.
